What is Foundayo?

Foundayo is an oral tablet containing semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist. Unlike injectable weight loss medications, Foundayo is taken by mouth once a day. It works by slowing how fast your stomach empties, reducing hunger signals, and helping you feel fuller for longer.

The medication is MHRA-approved for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 or above if you have weight-related health conditions such as type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure.

Why Does Foundayo Start at a Low Dose?

Your body needs time to adjust to GLP-1 medication. Starting at 0.8mg allows your system to adapt gradually, which reduces the chance of side effects such as nausea or stomach discomfort.

If you started at a higher dose, you would be more likely to experience significant nausea or other gastrointestinal effects that might make it harder to continue the treatment. The slow increase gives your body a chance to tolerate the medication while you learn how it affects your appetite and eating habits.

How the Foundayo Dose Increases Work

Foundayo uses a titration schedule. This means your dose increases in steps over several weeks, not all at once.

Starting: 0.8mg for the first four weeks

You begin on 0.8mg once daily. This is the lowest dose and allows your body to adjust. Most people tolerate this well, though some experience mild nausea or changes in appetite in the first few days. These effects often settle within a week or two.

At this stage, you may notice your appetite beginning to decrease, but the effect is usually modest.

Second stage: 2.5mg from week five to eight

After four weeks, your dose increases to 2.5mg once daily. By now, your body has adapted to the medication, and you can usually tolerate a higher dose without severe side effects.

At 2.5mg, most people notice a clearer reduction in hunger and feel fuller after smaller meals. Some people find their target dose here and stay on it long-term.

Third stage: 5.5mg from week nine to twelve

The dose increases to 5.5mg once daily. This is a significant step, and appetite suppression becomes more noticeable. You may find you need to eat smaller portions or eat less frequently.

Fourth stage: 9mg from week thirteen onwards

At 9mg, the medication's effects are well-established. This dose is effective for many people and may be your maintenance dose.

Higher doses: 14.5mg and 17.2mg

Some people continue to increase to 14.5mg or 17.2mg, depending on how well the medication is working and how you tolerate it. Your prescriber will discuss with you whether a higher dose is right for you.

Not everyone needs to reach the highest dose. Your prescriber will help you find the dose that works best for your weight loss goals and side effect profile.

What to Expect During Dose Increases

When your dose increases, you may notice side effects return briefly, even if you had settled on the previous dose. This is normal and usually temporary.

Common experiences include mild nausea, changes in appetite, or slight stomach discomfort for a few days. These effects typically fade within a week or two as your body adjusts.

Some people find that increasing their water intake, eating smaller meals, and avoiding fatty or very sweet foods helps them manage the adjustment period.

Side Effects and Risks

The most common side effects of Foundayo are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and constipation. These are usually mild to moderate and improve over time.

Less common but more serious side effects can include pancreatitis (severe stomach pain), gallbladder problems, and changes in blood sugar if you have type 2 diabetes. If you experience severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, or signs of low blood sugar, contact your prescriber or seek medical advice.

Foundayo is not suitable if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer, have a history of pancreatitis, or have severe gastrointestinal disease. If any of these apply to you, speak to your prescriber before starting or continuing treatment.

If you have type 2 diabetes, thyroid disease, or a history of pancreatitis, discuss this with your prescriber before starting Foundayo, as your treatment may need monitoring or adjustment.

Common Questions

How long does each dose stage last?

Each dose stage typically lasts four weeks. However, your prescriber may adjust this timeline based on how you are tolerating the medication and your response to it.

Can I stay on a lower dose if it is working for me?

Yes. Your prescriber will work with you to find the dose that gives you good results with side effects you can manage. Not everyone needs to reach the highest dose.

What if I cannot tolerate a dose increase?

If a dose increase causes side effects you find difficult to manage, speak to your prescriber. They may suggest staying on your current dose longer, increasing more slowly, or adjusting your approach to meals and hydration.

Does a higher dose always mean more weight loss?

Not necessarily. Clinical trials show that weight loss plateaus for some people at lower doses, while others benefit from higher doses. Your prescriber will help you find the dose that works best for you.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take your next dose at the usual time the next day. Do not double up to make up for a missed dose. If you miss more than one dose, speak to your prescriber for advice.

How long do I take Foundayo?

This depends on your goals and how well the medication works for you. Some people take it for several months, others for longer. Your prescriber will review this with you regularly.

Can the dose be reduced after I reach my goal weight?

Yes. Some people reduce their dose or stop taking Foundayo once they reach their target weight. Your prescriber will discuss the best approach for you, as some people find a lower maintenance dose helps them keep the weight off.

Is Foundayo the same as injectable semaglutide?

Foundayo is a tablet form of semaglutide. Injectable semaglutide (such as Wegovy) is given as a weekly injection. Both contain the same active ingredient but work slightly differently in your body. Your prescriber can discuss which form suits you best.
