  • What is an off label medication means

Off-label’ use means that the medicine (Ozempic) has a license for treating diabetes and not weightloss. However, the manufacturer of Ozempic medicine has not applied for a license for it to be used to treat weightloss. Ozempic is licensed for diabetes and Wegovy is licenced for weightloss (They are both Semaglutide with different dosages).

Off-label prescribing is common, and taking a drug for an off-label use can be safe and effective. However, there may also be certain risks involved (Please read the patient information leaflet for side effects). There are also some benefits and risks associated with off-label drug use.

  • What to do if I miss doses?

It’s important to stick to a consistent schedule when taking medication, but occasionally things happen that can throw you off our routine. If you miss a dose, don’t panic.

    • If you miss a dose and the next scheduled dose is more than 2 days away (48 hours), take the missed dose as soon as possible
    • If you miss a dose and the next scheduled dose is less than 2 days away (48 hours), do not administer the dose. Take your next dose on the regularly scheduled day
    • If you miss doses for more than 2 weeks, do not use the regular dose except its is 0.25mg (Semaglitide or 2.5mg Tirzepatide). Contact us for further advice on how to restart your treatment
It’s important not to double up on doses to make up for a missed one, as this can lead to unwanted side effects.

  • Side Effect

The most common side effects of this type of medication are gastrointestinal-related issues such as nausea, constipation and heartburn.

Other more serious side effects include pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), gallbladder issues, kidney disease, low blood sugar levels (hypoglycaemia), diabetic retinopathy, fast heartbeat and allergic reactions.

Those with a family history of thyroid cancer (medullary thyroid carcinoma) and multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 should avoid taking Semaglutide, Tirzepatide or Liraglutide.

If you experience any of these symptoms and side effects, it’s important to contact us and seek medical attention immediately.
